J&S Valve and Manufacturing

Giving More to the End Users!

J & S VALVE began manufacturing Solid Wedge Resilient Seated Gate Valves with the design concept of Improving the Industry Standards (AWWA C509 & C515). J & S Valve combines the highest quality materials used by waterworks gate valve manufacturers. J&S manufacturers a thick wall valve poured completely of ductile iron, not gray cast iron.

The AWWA C509 standard allows the valve to be constructed of gray cast iron. The AWWA C515 standard requires the valve to be poured out of ductile iron, however, it allows the manufacturer to reduce the wall thickness by nearly 50% on some sizes.

To improve the industry standard, J&S Valve manufacturers a heavy thick wall valve poured entirely of ductile iron. Ductile Iron is stronger than gray cast iron. Ductile iron has a tensile strength of 65,000 psi and 12% elongation; gray cast iron has a tensile strength of 31,000 psi and less than 1% elongation. By using ductile iron and pouring a thick wall AWWA C509 valve J&S Valve has improved the industry standards significantly.

Other water works gate valve manufacturers who choose to manufacture a thin reduced wall ductile iron AWWA C515 valve are not providing the corrosion resistance and extra strength that J&S Valve brings to the end user. The reduced wall valve is certainly not equal to the strength and quality of the J&S Valve.
